The Pampas Tour

Having done the jungle trip, I decided to do a pampas tour in the Amazon Basin. Three days of floating up a river watching wild life. Fantatsic. And it really complemented the boat trip.

Here´s what happened:

Day 1
We took a long dusty journey by jeep to one of the rivers, and then headed up to the lodge we were staying in. It is unbelieveable how much wild-life there is.

There was a guy called Bob on the tour who was an avid bird watcher, and gave us the background on everything we saw. (It´s just a shame I can´t remember everything he said).

That night we went on the boat to the Sunset Bar for a few cold ones, and ran out of petrol on the way back to the lodge, so the guide paddled us back while we watched the wildlife.

Day 2
Up the river for a walk to find snakes - we didn´t find any Anaconda´s, but we did find a cobra.

That afternoon we swam with Pink River Dolphins. They don´t come close to you, but you do get to see them quite close up.

That night at the Sunset Bar we were talking about how we´d just spent an hour in a river with Caymans, Alligators, Piranahas, Snakes, and other nasty stuff. Phew!

Day 3
An early morning fishing trip (we caught nothing), and then back down the river - with even more wildlife, and back to Rurre.

Having just read that, it sounds like we didn´t do much, but I still can´t believe how much wild life there was. The river was teaming with it: birds, cayman, capybura, pink river dolphins, monkeys...

I´ve never seen so many heron´s on one stretch of river. At home you see maybe one of two - but we saw one of two ever 15 minutes.

Really enjoyed it (another highlight :-)

Here´s a small selection of the photo´s I took - enjoy:
