Perth - Part 1

If some of you were wondering why I've not updated the blog for a while - the answer is simple: Perth.

It's been so action packed over the last few days that I've not had a moment spare to do much else.

But to start from the beginning:

I'm not scared of flying - I actually enjoy the whole thing. But the landing at Perth - well - it was pretty scary.

As were coming in there's loads of turbulence, and were being thrown around pretty badly. As the plane hits the ground, you can see the grass getting closer and closer, as the plane swerves to the left. A second later it swerves the other way, and it feels like were going to spin around. And then it's back the other way.

Thankfully, we stayed on the runway - but it was pretty scary.

The great thing about being in Perth was it was a chance to spend some time with Lindon and Sam. It felt kind of weird knowing that they were there - particularly as they'd dropped me off at the airport, and effectively started off the whole trip with me.

Here's a pic from November of last year:

They'd kindly planned to show me around, and basically arranged everything for the next two days. It was so good to see friendly faces again, and not have to do all the introduction stuff.

Here we all are at King's Park, with downtown Perth in the background:

As were walking through the park, we notice some Splash Down portable toilets of Kenny fame - I couldn't resist:

Here's the War Memorial - which is also in the park.

After a quick look around, we headed back to Craig and Megan's house - who had kindly agreed to put me up while I was in Perth.

That night we headed out to a place called Kulture for food, and stopped on the way to see some Kangaroo's. But they decided not to show up, but we did seem some Kookaburras and some frogs. Here's some pics:

I'm pretty sure I took loads of photo's at Kulture. But it appears not.

The next day, we headed out to the beaches of Perth - and Perth has some incredible beaches. In fact, it has miles and miles of incredible beaches. We did the whole thing - swimming, body boarding, and fish and chips (with lashings of tomato sauce).

The water is so clear here, that we even watched a little cormorant trying to catch fish, with a huge shoal of fish trying to avoid it.

And then on to Freo to have a look around the shops. Freemantle is best described in the words of Lindon: like Hebden Bridge by the Med. And that's exactly what it's like.

Sadly - I took not photo's. Is it me or is there a theme developing here.

Sadly, it was Lindon and Sam's last night in Perth and they had invited some friends over. It was really great to meet some of the people they talk about from there time in Perth.

Er...no photos - sorry.

One thing I'd been disappointed about so far on my trip was not seeing a really really big scary spider. And as people were leaving, we spotted two huge Huntsman Spider, which was really awesome.

Yes - it's a regular sized house brick:

Sadly, that was the end of Lindon and Sam's time in Perth - and Craig and Megan and myself had three mornings - all on one day. The first when everyone went to bed at 1am. The second when we all got up to say good bye to Lindon and Sam at 4am. And the third when we all got up in the morning...

It was really great to see Lindon and Sam - thanks to them for an awesome introduction to Perth...and a perfect day...
